| SC SHARE works diligently to provide peer support by way of self-help groups set up across the state. Loneliness and isolation are two of the debilitating effects of mental illness. The support of another person who is in recovery from a mental illness may be the greatest source of hope and strength that a person can receive.
In addition to mutual peer support, SC SHARE is actively involved in the training of Peer Specialist employed at Community Mental Health Centers across the state. Professionals with a mental illness who have completed certification training and testing teach self-help skills; offer system and individual advocacy; provide crisis and social support; assist with housing and employment needs etc. for clients of community mental health centers.
